The Entry Examination

The entry examination is held twice a year - June and late August/early September - at the C.M.U.C.A.S. centre at The Abbey College. Professors and Vice-Deans from each department fly to the UK solely for these examinations and interviews.

Prior to the examination in late August/early September the C.M.U.C.A.S. holds a two week intensive revision course at The Abbey, which has enjoyed a 100% success rate. Please see our Student Guide for details.

Students who fail in the June examinations may resit the examination in August, but are not allowed to apply for the same faculty. These exams are administered and marked the same day by the visiting professors from each faculty.

Faculties

A decision on which faculty you wish to attend should be made on application, although it does not need to be finalised until the examination date. The day before the examination, the visiting professors hold a seminar which gives candidates the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the different faculties.

Videos, slides, past students and counsellors help tell students more about their choice of faculty. Detailed syllabuses are also available at this stage.

More comprehensive advice and interviews are given by the staff of The Abbey College for those on the revision and foundation courses, for whom a decision does not need to be finalised until after these interviews are given.

Transfers between faculties (or to and from U.K. and U.S. universities) are possible after the first year.

Interviews

It is important to emphasise that all students must attend an interview with the professors regardless of their status, achievements or quality of grades. This is usually held on the same afternoon, following the examinations.

It can be arranged by appointment at the faculty - if a student is not able to attend either of the seminar weekends - but only if places are available at the end of the U.K. examinations held.

Entry Examination

The examination, which is a multiple choice paper lasting three hours, tests the candidate in Chemistry, Biology and Physics. The level of difficulty of the examination is similar to that of, for example, the British 'A' level or Malaysian STPM examinations.

In marking, some allowance will be made for those who have not studied Physics or Biology but have Mathematics at Advanced level.

Depending on the outcome of the examinations, those who achieve the necessary results will join the faculty in mid September of the same year to take the intensive Czech language course referred to above.

Those going on to study the Foundation Course will commence their studies at The Abbey College in early to mid-September of the same year or the following year, depending on the examination results.
